When I process photographs, I love to listen to blues and jazz music. Early Saturday morning, I love to make a hot cup of coffee (with a splash of Irish whiskey), crank up some old music, and “go through” photographs. Last weekend, I converted the picture below from raw to black and white JPEG. I added a subtle S-curve to the tone graph to give it a bit of a punch. Other than that, the picture is untouched.
There is something honest and sincere in its simplicity. It is unpretentious. It says, “I am a wild flower — nothing more, nothing less — take me or leave me.” That’s what I appreciate the most about the blues genre: it is raw, it is unpretentious, and it is sincere.
