This oppressive heat has kept me indoors—processing photographs. I stumbled across this beautiful sunset I captured from my friend’s boat, as we were returning home from a gorgeous day on the Chesapeake Bay.
Here are a couple of thoughts on sunsets, which I hope inspire you as they do me:
Nobody of any real culture, for instance, ever talks nowadays about the beauty of sunset. Sunsets are quite old fashioned…. To admire them is a distinct sign of provincialism of temperament. Upon the other hand they go on.
And found on the dove-grey edge of the sea
A pearl-pale, high-born lady, who rode
On a horse with bridle of findrinny;
And like a sunset were her lips,
A stormy sunset on doomed ships….
—William Butler Yeats
