Playwright Larry Barretto said, “Babies are bits of stardust blown from the hand of God. Lucky the woman who knows the pangs of birth for she has held a star.”
After photographing my friends’ newborn baby, Suzanna, I am reminded of the beauty of God’s creations. Moreover, her delicate beauty and dependency on her parents remind me of not just her parents’, but humankind’s awesome responsibility to this baby placed in our charge by God.
Vincent Van Gogh said,
“If one feels the need of something grand, something infinite, something that makes one feel aware of God, one need not go far to find it. I think that I see something deeper, more infinite, more eternal than the ocean in the expression of the eyes of a little baby when it wakes in the morning and coos or laughs because it sees the sun shining on its cradle.”
In February, my friends invited me to photograph their baby shower — yes, mom has some hot friends! Baby Suzanna is now three weeks old, and I was privileged to photograph her yesterday. This was only the second baby I’ve ever photographed, and it was the first time I’ve used my new Canon Speedlight 580EX II flash. She was a bit fussy, but that was okay. However, this made using my manually focused Zeiss lens out of the question — instead, I used my Canon 85mm lens. Excuses aside, I am pleased with the photographs. I took about two hundred photographs, and I will share a few of them. The rest of them, however, will be disseminated at mom and dad’s discretion.
Mom provided me a list of ideas, but we didn’t get to see them to fruition because baby Suzanna just wasn’t in the mood. Dad was amazing and should be called the “Baby Whisperer.” I am looking forward to my next session with them. Here are some of those photographs (Click on photograph to see larger version):

Simply beautiful. I love the title, the quotes, the sentiment, and the photos, especially the sepia one at the beginning. Baby Suzanna looks so thoughtful and wise as she contemplates the world from the safety and comfort of Mama’s arms … great post, Jamie.

(Yeah, I kinda like giving advice … not that I’m a know-it-all or anything like that! :D) And I’m working on it–hoping to post in the morning.
